Success Of Stock Of Johnny Globe
(From Our Own Reporter)
DUNEDIN. The success of the progeny of Johnny Globe continued on the third night of the InterDominion Championship series at Forbury Park on Saturday. The successes of Gramel, Gay Robin and Wendy Dawn brought the number of wins to eight for Johnny Globe’s sons and daughters. In addition, a number of others recorded placings, making him by far the most successful sire at the meeting. His other winners have been Lordship and Johnny Chappelet. A record crowd and a record on-course totalisator made Saturday the most successful in the history of the Forbury Park Trotting Club. The course was packed but not uncomfortably by a crowd of 16,192, which paid £5830 at the gates.
The on-course totalisator turnover was £141,287 ss, including £20,716 5s on the two doubles. The previous record was £122,945 at the club’s Otago Centennial meeting in 1948. The off-course turnover, too, was most satisfactory, amounting to £159,389 5s Including £77,838 5s on the double. The results of the first three
nights suggest that only bad weather on Wednesday will prevent the club making a reasonable profit on the four nights.
