POSTAL CENTRE TENDERS LEFT

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 19. The Cabinet works committee has decided to defer further consideration of the calling of tenders for the new postal centre and administration building in Wellington until July 1.

The new building will be erected in Waterloo quay next to the Waterloo Hotel, and will cost about £3 million.

Announcing this today, the Postmaster-General (Mr Scott) said the committee's decision was made after giv-

ing careful consideration tc needs for the building, and having regard to recent announcements about Government capital expenditure, pressure on the labour market, and the building industry in particular. Mr Scott said the building was much needed by the Post Office for the efficient running of its postal services in the city, and for co-ordina-tion of its administrative divisions in one building. The need for the building had been recognised for many years, and plans which were now ready had taken a considerable time to prepare as many special features were involved.
