SEALING IN TUNNEL
Work Next Week
Many men and machines will be working in the Christ-church-Lyttelton road tunnel during next week, laying an asphaltic concrete surface on the concrete roadway through the entire length of the tunnel.
The Lyttelton portal area has already been sealed, and similar treatment will be given to the roadway between the toll plaza and the Heathcote portal. The work, which began yesterday, will give a smoother riding surface through the tunnel. The general manager (Mr L. H. Wilson) yesterday appealed to all users to take special care when moving through the tunnel. Traffic would have to be reduced to one lane in the immediate vicinity of sealing operations, but tunnel-control officers would be on duty to direct traffic, said Mr Wilson. The work would be done with as little inconvenience to patrons as possible.
