Two Men Damage Hotel Bedroom
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, February 17. A disturbance yesterday morning in a hotel bedroom occupied by two of the cast of the “Striparama” show, held in Dunedin on Monday night, resulted in the appearance of two Christchurch men before Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning.
Anthony Robert Hyde Harris, aged 39, a company manager, and Warren William Kennedy, aged 18, a shop proprietor, both pleaded guilty to wilfully damaging wallpaper in the Dunedin Hotel to the extent of £B.
Senior-Sergeant R. M. Schwass said the two men had come to Dunedin from Christchurch by taxi early yesterday morning, arriving about 7 a.m. Both men drank in the hotel bar for some time. About 10 a.m., they tried to find out which room was occupied by the girls from the “Stripirama” show. They wandered around the first floor, trying doors —and each time they entered a room not
occupied by the girls, they overturned the beds and strewed the blankets on the floor.
After they found the room, Senior-Sergeant Schwass said, some tom-foolery took place in the corridor between HydeHarris and Kennedy. Kennedy took the fire hose from the wall and squirted Hyde-Harris. Hyde-Harris then took the hose to the girls’ bedroom and squirted the walls, the ceiling, the bedding, and one of the girls, who had been asleep. Hyde-Harris was well known to the police, SeniorSergeant Schwass said. He was at present on bail from Christchurch on a narcotics charge. Mr Willis fined each of the two men £lO, in default 10 days’ imprisonment, and ordered each to pay £4 compensation.
