Sperm Oil Goes

(N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, Feb. 16. The 300 tons of sperm oil held in storage at the Tory channel station since last season in the hope that the price would improve—and that someone would buy it—was shipped in the Dutch freighter Main Lloyd at the week-end for Rotterdam, Mr G. T. Perano, a principal of the now inoperative Tory Channel Whaling Company, said today. The price was £55 a ton c.1.f., a price which he described as “pretty poot,” but he was glad to see the oil go. The company had heard little from the Government, in spite of the many suggestions put to it to keep the industry alive, 'Mr Perano said. “If they guaranteed us £9O- - a ton, even at the low world price/ they’d get their money back—some time,” he said. “We estimate we had £16,000 worth of oil, but the wage bill is £15,000,” said Mr Perano.
