Rangiora Breeders Win Jersey Show

“The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH, February 17. Two South Island breed, era took the top award* for cow* in the Manawatu Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Club’s world Jersey conference show at Palmerston North last night The Rangiora breeder, Mr R. W. Frost had his Pine Leigh Primrose judged champion cow and another Rangiora breeder, Mr F. W. Hansen, won the reserve championship with his Lilac Grova Neholi.

One thousand five hundred watched the judging. Pine Leigh Primrose was judged champion cow and champion Jersey at the allNew Zealand Jersey show at Hamilton earlier this month, and was champion Jersey at the Amberley and Christchurch A. and P. shows. In five of the six classes the winning breeders received, in addition to prize money, a 15 guinea “golden cow” trophy presented by the club. The Countess of Jersey, wife of the Earl of Jersey, who is chairman of the World Jersey Bureau, placed sashes on the champion and reserve cows and presented a clock to Mr Frost.

The champion heifer was Mr H. B. Morgan’s (Waltoa) Heather View Impress May and the reserve was Lemorna Comet’s Delight from the estate of S. A. Tippett, Hawera. The Earl ot Jersey said he was particularly impressed with the work of the judge, Mr T. M. Fleming, of Rangiora. At a sale after the show, 51 Jerseys, including 10 in-milk females, 32 in-calf females, and nine bull-calves, were sold at auction.

Bidding opened strongly, the first offering selling for 490 guineas. A class winner at the show, Heather View Impress May, sold soon after for 610 guineas.
