SYDNEY, February 17. Miss Ethel May Manders. the 51-year-eld invalid pensioner who has sued the New South Wales Housing Minister for £7 million, yesterday moved into a new flat found for her by the State Housing Commission. Miss Manders was evicted from a commission flat in north Sydney after the commission had ruled a collection of magazines and newspapers in the flat to be a fire hazard. The commission said Miss Manders had declined its offer to help to clear out the papers.
Miss Manders earlier this month took out a £7 million writ against the Housing Minister, Mr Abram Landa.
She told reporters that the writ alleged defamation of character and illegal eviction. Miss Manders spoke to reporters from the veranda of a vacant house opposite her old flat, where she was camped with her possessions.
Mr Landa said last night Miss Manders had moved into a new flat in suburban Hurstville.
He said he did not know if she was withdrawing her writ
