BRIQUETTES ON SALE

Plant Passes Test (N.Z. Prefs Association) WESTPORT, Feb. 17. The first consignment of Buller-manufactured briquettes reached a Westport coal merchant yesterday. The briquettes were made at the new plant at Ngakawau, about 20 miles from Westport The district manager of State mines (Mr F. Lockington) said today tests at the plant had been successfully completed, although the contractors had yet to hand over the building to the Mines Department. The Ngakawau plant employs about seven men and will produce about 20 tons a day. Wellington and Christchurch will be the first main market for the briquettes, the first to be produced in the South Island. The only other plant is in the Waikato.

CAPRI, the island of sun and romance in the Bay of Naples, had its first snoiw in 15 yeans yesterday. It was a holiday for the island’s children.
