The “radio aurora,” a special type of reflection of radio waves from the ionosphere during a magnetic disturbance, was proving a very sensitive ground indicator of what was going on aloft, Mr R. S. Vivian, officer in charge of the Lauder Auroral Station told the Science Congress today. Much new information on the radio aurora had been obtained from the station’s equipment at Bluff. The improved understanding from studying the radio aurora might provide a basis for dodging radio interference from magnetic disturbance effects.
