PERCY AT ROOSEVELT

Has To Regain Land Legs

(N.Z.P.A^-Rettter—Copyright) NEW YORK.

Percy Tarport, a promising four - year - old Australian pacer, arrived at Roosevelt Raceway on Monday after leaving Sydney 75 days b|o. Percy Tarport, a gift to trainer-driver D. Miller from J. Jones, a Melbourne breeder, was delayed 29 days because of the United States dock strike. The horse will be trained by A. Thomas and is expected to have his first start during the Roosevelt meeting which begins on May 13. Miller said Percy Tarport would need about a month to regain his land legs and then another two months’ training before racing. The Australian pacer left Sydney on December 2 by ship, for New York. When the ship arrived, it could not be unloaded because of the dockers’ strike. A try was made at Boston but ships were not being unloaded there either. Finally, Percy Tarport hit land at Halifax. Nova Scotia, where he rested for a few days until the end of the strike. Then he made a return trip to Boston where he was transported by lorry to the raceway.
