NEW BALL RULING
Support For Overs Bowled
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Feb. 16.
The New South Wales Cricket Association will support the Australian Board of Control in pressing for the taking of new balls after 65 eight-ball overs or 85 six-bail overs.
At present the Laws of Cricket provide that in firstclass matches, except in the United Kingdom, the new ball shall be used after 200 runs have been scored.
In the United Kingdom, unless specially provided for, the laws provide that the new ball be used in matches after 85 six-ball overs. The association’s executive committee chairman, Mr E. G. MacMillan, said: “The counting of overs is a more reliable and fairer way of assessing when the new ball should be taken."
