Soccer Club To Be Company?
(N Z. Press Association) f AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. ; The North Shore (Auck- ■ land) soccer club is considering becoming a limited lia- 1 bility company controlled by 1 directors and offering incen- ] tive payments to players on ( three-year contracts. t The plan was discussed by a special meeting last I night which unanimously de- t cided to forward it to the 1 club’s annual meeting on Monday night for considers- t tion. < If the proposal is adopted, i a sub-committee of three 1 would be formed to draw up
the necessary articles for the change from an incorporated society to a limited liability company. It was stated today that the directors would buy non profit-making shares and on retirement, the money would be refunded and another director appointed who would then buy shares. In addition, a limited number of shares would be offered to supporters who would not have a voting majority. A coach would be appointed and paid, and players, paid incentive money, would be placed on a three-year contract. The object of the contracts
was to give the club a continuity of players. Amateurs would be able to continue playing.
The scheme would not interfere with the club’s junior teams, necessary under the Auckland association’s constistitution which requires a senior club to have two senior teams and four junior sides. Though is also being given to the possible introduction of the English scheme where a player between the age of 16 and 18 signs a junior professional form. From 17 onwards he could be invited to sign a full professional form, but a decision has to be made before he is 18.
