Swimming Titles
Canterbury will have one of its smallest senior representations for several seasons at the New Zealand swimming championships in Dunedin next month.
The Canterbury team, announced last evening, contains only six seniors and of these two are divers and one a long-distance specialist.
One of the centre’s best medal hopes, Miss M. Jones, runner-up to the Olympian, Miss V. J. Haddon, last season, was not available. Twelve juniors have been selected, and Lyndsey Falk has been chosen as the recipient of the Argyle Textiles award. R. Wilson has been included as the most promising junior.
The official team numbers 12, but a further six competitors will join the party as club nominations. R. L. Hodge will be team captain. Mr H. Pitama the official coach, and Mr R. W. H. Luscombe and Mrs Luscombe will be manager and chaperon respectively. The official team Is: —Men: R. L. Hodge (Spreydon). Women: H. Hutton (Spreydon), J. P. Clark (University). Boys: W. Brown (Riccarton), B. Mears (Spreydon), M. Kindle (Wharenui), R. Wilson (Spreydon). Girls: J. Berryman (Wharenui), L. Falk (Wharenui), T. Shipston (Elmwood), A. Mitchell (Wharenui), T. Jones (Wharenui). The club nominations are: —Men: P. W. Pearce (Spreydon), M. Gould (St. Albans). Women: L. Harrow (Spreydon). Boys: J. Edmonds (Spreydon), A. Kindred (Wharenui). Girls: R. Mackenzie (Elmwood).
Soccer. Rochdale beat Stockport County, 2-1, in the only English League soccer match played on Monday.
