Ballots For Service
Sir, —In the recent National Service ballot, it was stated, those in the ballot were boys whose twentieth birthday fell between July 1 and October 3. As there was no ballot in 1964, the previous one being in December, 1963, it would appear that those who registered after the December, 1963, ballot and before the July 1, 1964, ballot have not been included in , any ballot. Are they entitled to special exemption or will they be included in a later ballot? —Yours, etc., INTERESTED PARENT. February 11, 1965.
[The District Superintendent of Labour (Mr C. P. Collins) says: “No age group has been missed in the ballots under the National Military Service Act. Under the original act of 1961 call-up and ballotting occurred at yearly intervals. Those born between July 1, 1963, and June 30, 1964, were ballotted in during December, 1963. Under the 1964 amendment those born July 1, 1964, to November 30, 1964, were ballotted in January, 1965, and ballots will take place at four-monthly intervals from then on.”]
