Professional Championship
A STRONG field has entered for the £lOOO sponsored tournament for the New Zealand Professional Golfers’ Association championship which will be held at Mt. Maunganui on January 8 and 9.
The field has quite an international flavour —Australia, Britain, America and Holland are all represented. The strongest contingent is from Australia and includes the defending champion, R. Tuohy, and E. W. Dunk, D. Sullivan, and J. Sullivan.
G. Wolstenholme is Britain’s representative, W. Kay a New England professional is the sole American player. M. Roesink, a Dutch Canada Cup representative and the current Dutch
champion, is a player who has just joined the New Zealand professional circuit.
The leading New Zealand professionals, W. J. Godfrey, F. X. Buckler and R. R. Newdick also have entered.
It is the first major tournament to be held on the Mt. Maunganui course and this pleasant sea-side course should provide a good test for the competitors.
The course is 6478 yards and par 73. The longest hole is 530 yards.
