GISBORNE ARCHER LEADS MASTERS

GISBORNE, January 4. In trying conditions with a blustery wind blowing across the target more than 160 archers from all parts of New Zealand competed in the first round of the open championship this afternoon.

The overnight leader in the masters section of the open is W. J. Burton, of Gisborne, with a score of 854. The present champion, J. Brunnings, of Westport, is lying fourth with a score of 758.

In the women’s section L. N. Lamberg, Rotorua, with 759, V.

Tetley, of Mangere, is lying second, with 752, and J. Lenden, of Auckland, third with 628. Results include: Men Master Grade.—J. Brunning (Westport) 706, D. Dixon (unattached) 706, W.
