Mass Migration Needed
(N.Z.P.A.- Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, December 29. Indonesia will need to move about 5000 Javanese a day to other islands to spread the country’s population evenly, President Sukarno said in Djakarta last night.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of Indonesia’s national transmigration conference. To make the mass move Indonesia would need about 20 ships of 3000 tons each to carry the people continuously from Java. President Sukarno said the figures indicated the tremendous size of Indonesia’s interisland immigration question which had to be settled on a national scale.
