Ferndale Prince Wins At Winton

INVERCARGILL. Dec. 28. In a rough race. Ferndale Prince, badly placed into the straight, came with the last run wide out on the track, to win the Winton Trotting Club Handicap, the main event and first leg of the double at the Winton Trotting Clubs summer meeting today. Ferndale Prince swamped the opposition over the last 100 yards to beat Omar On by a length and a quarter. Southern Rev, bracketed with the winner, was third, with First Solo, which looked the winner at the furlong, weakening to fourth, ahead of Storm King. St. Nazaire, First Battle and Whisky Galore. Majeur, trained by Mr G. C. Cruickshank, of Invercargill, a member of the executive of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, who races him in partnership with hßi wife, completed the day’s double when he gained a clear-cut win in the second leg, the Improvers’ Handicap No. 2. Mr Cruickshank also produced Petite Sal. She won the final event. Petite’s Sals win gave her driver, H. W. Skinner, his third successive win. The on-coursc double. Guyfa and Calm Autumn, paid £3S 7s for £l. The racing was held in brilliantly fine weather, but the track was dead after rain during the night.
