Kadir’s Six Adds Finishing Touch

(New Zealand Press Association)

WHANGAREI, Dec. 28. In the third international cricket match played at Cobham Oval, Whangarei, a six featured in the finish for the third time. On this occasion Abdul Kadir straight drove a ball over the boundary fence to give Pakistan a 10-wicket victory over Northland this evening. When the M.C.C. side played on the ground in 1961 D. Smith clouted a six in the final over and in 1962 B. Presland hit a six to give Northland a one-wicket win over Fiji. When Northland’s first innings closed in the first halfhour of the day’s play the right-arm bowler, Intikhab Alam returned the impressive bowling figures of eight wickets for 56 runs. Pakistan, which had scored 306 for nine wickets declared in its first innings, had no hesitation in forcing the follow on. But it was evident that Javed Burki, the acting 'captain, was taking every op-

'portunity of giving all his bowlers a workout on the slower New Zealand wicket. He tried seven bowlers in the Northland second innings. But Intikhab was not one of them. Took Punishment The left-arm spinners, Pervez Sajjad and Nasimul Ghani, took most wickets but they also took some punishment. The off-spin-ner, Afaq Husain, sent down 25 overs at a cost of 54 runs, and his two wickets were the result of mistimed slogs. Teh Pakistan fielding was not as polished as one would expect from an international team, but the side was by no means treating the whole affair too seriously. Northland started off slower but sure in the second innings. In spite of the early loss of the opener, T. Blake, the captain, W. Bray and S. Munro, put on 60 runs in fine style. W. Holt showed that he was prepared to open his shoulders to any delivery well pitched up and belted three sixes before being caught on the boundary. However, before he went for 39 he ensured the Pakistanis would have to bat again. The side was all out for 201.
