Higher Wages For Butchers

Increases of between 8s 8d and Ils 3d in the minimum weekly wage for adult workers are provided for in the new Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson, Westland, Canterbury, and Otago and Southland butchers’ award, which comes into force on November 30. The award incorporates the terms of settlement arrived at by the parties in Conciliation Council. Increases in the minimum weekly wage for boys and youths range from 5s to 7s. All casual workers employed under the new award shall be paid not less than 8s 7d an hour, with a minimum of six hours on any day on which they are employed. The award includes an unqualified preference clause.
