Sir Barton and Cantus fought out a thrilling finish to the Caltex Handicap on the second day of the Manawatu Racing Club's meeting at Awapuni on Saturday with Sir Barton winning by half a neck.
He made most of the pace but Cantus headed him inside the last furlong. Sir Barton came again gallantly to just win. Prince Murat, hear the rear at the turn, finished brilliantly for third ahead of Tilka and the favourite, Tasman Lad. High Disdain finished strongly from the back to win the Boron Handicap in the last stride from Tara's Pride, with Mukupai almost in line third ahead of Grand Win.
