TRIMBLE 220

Queensland On Top (NZ. Press Assn—Copyright) ADELAIDE. Dec. 27. After a poor batting display, South Australia, 118 for seven, was facing outright defeat by Queensland yesterday at the end of the second day’s play in a Sheffield Shield match. Chasing Queensland’s first innings score of 464, South Australia’s hopes were quickly dashed by the 21-year-old fastmedium right-arm bowler, R. Duncan, who in an unchanged spell of 17 overs, took five for 22. The Queensland opening batsman, S. Trimble, earlier scored 220 and seems certain of a place in the Australian team to tour the West Indies. Trimble’s innings occupied 456 minutes and included 20 fours. Scores: Queensland 464 (Trimble 220, J. Mackay 69, T. R. Veivers 60, P. J. Burge 45; N. J. Hawke 5/92, McCarthy 3/102), South Australia 118/7 (R. Duncan 5/22).
