The Traffic
Sir,—The City Planning Study Group has been correctly classified as amateur. An architect is not a structural engineer; nor is either a qualified traffic engineer. The council asks us to accept as experts these people who have steadfastly refused to meet qualified planners, presumably in case their theories should be exploded in their faces. Surely a typical reaction of a biased minority group. Now, an overseas expert (is he a town or traffic planner?) is invited to comment on two plans, one professional in presentation and factual in information, the other amateur and frankly restrictive in principle. Surely our expert will first ask the council which viewpoint is considered paramount for the good of the city’s future. The council must still make a decision itself. May it be equal to this task and act as statesmen, not politicians. Passing the plan and then calling for a second opinion does not inspire confidence. —Yours, etc., SECOND-CENTURY PIONEER.
