AGED 102

‘Amazing’ Woman (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 27. Flowers arrived from India and Wales for Mrs M. Falkner who celebrated her 102nd birthday in a Herne Bay rest home on Boxing Day. Almost 50 immediate relatives visited her during the day.

The staff of the nursing home could not keep her in bed after 7 a.m. that day. “She really is amazing,” one staff member said. Mrs Falkner was born at Pontypool, Wales, and came to New Zealand with her family in 1909. Later she returned to England where she campaigned for equal rights for women and became a friend of Sylvia Pankhurst. Mrs Falkner is now a little hard of hearing and her sight is pot the best, but according to her relations she is still “as sharp as a knife” and can argue with the best.
