Great Adios Could Take Honours In Auckland Cup
"The Press’’ Special Service AUCKLAND, Dec. 25.
Although there will be no Cardigan Bay for Aucklanders to cheer to victory in the £5lOO Trotting Cup on Monday night, they are hopeful that Great Adios will prove equal to taking the honours for their district.
They are also highly pleased to have the opportunity of seeing the brilliant Lordship in action, as he has not raced here since his narrow defeat in the 1961 Great Northern Derby. Possibilities do not remain only with this much-favoured pair as Orbiter and Vanderford have such consistant form and shaped so well last week that they will have a good following.
Jay Ar is recognised in the north as an “Epsom specialist,” and two others not to be overlooked are Golcourt and Van Rebeck, the former with two' successive wins and the latter a first and second quite recently. The second leg, the Summer Handicap, is more open now with Oakhampton on the sideline. It is likely that Spencer, which ran him to a head last Saturday, will be the main fancy. Smokeover, Spring Legs, Yakety Yak, and Thunder Royal have good winning form also, while the success of Grande Gamison last week, and of Paddy’s Day at Addington last month clouds the issue.
With a continuation of the present good weather, the track will be fast.
