Ruapuna In Form For Westport

Ruapuna, which was narrowly beaten by Gay Judy at Rangiora a week ago, should go close to winning the Scanlon Handicap, the second leg of the on-course double on the first day of the Westport Trotting Club’s annual meeting today.

Most opposition to Ruapuna may come from Waltz Away and Night Rocket, both of which paced sound races at the Rangiora meeting. The bracket of Big Charge and Stella Globe will be among the favourites for the first leg, the Pain Handicap, in which Blazing and Peterborough should race prominently. The T.A.B. double will be run on the Westport Handicap and the President’s Handicap, Gay Gordon and Vaggi forming a likely combination. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
