Five Injured In Road Accidents
Five persons were injured in road accidents in Christchurch on Christmas Day, only one seriously. Mr J. F. Heyden, a pedestrian, suffered abrasions to his head when knocked down by a car outside his home at 210 Salisbury street at 1215 a.m. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged. At 4.40 a.m., Mr D. J. Monroe, of 16 Warrington street, suffered head injuries when the car he was in ran into the back of a milk truck outside 385 Marshland road. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged. Mr B. Callanan, of 14 Roche avenue, suffered severe bruising when his motor-cycle and a car collided at the corner of Wairakei and Idris roads at 1.50 p.m. He was treated
by a St. John ambulance driver and cadet.
At 2.30 p.m., Mr M. D. Pugh, of 25 Wildwood avenue, a passenger in a taxi, suffered chest injuries when the taxi and a car collided at the corner of Woodham and Kerrs road. He was discharged after treatment at the Christchurch Hospital. Mr W. Hegen, of 74 Carmen road, suffered, head, chest and hand injuries when a car and truck collided in Brynley street about 3.30 p.m. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital where his condition later was reported to be fairly satisfactory.
On Thursday, at 11 p.m., Miss Fay Ellis, of 18 Sandra street, suffered head and leg injuries when two cars collided at the corner of Manchester street and Moorhouse avenue. She was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital where her condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory.
