RELEASE OF AIRMAN
Cyprus Govt. Action (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NICOSIA, Dec. 22. A Royal Air Force senior aircraftman, Keith Marley, who has been serving a 10year prison sentence in Nicosia for carrying arms and ammunition illegally for Turkish Cypriots, was released by the Cyprus Government from Nicosia central prison yesterday. Marley was handed over to British military authorities who took him to one of the two British sovereign base areas on the island. Two conditions of Marley’s release by the Cyprus Government were that he never returns to the island and that he be dealt with appropriately by British service authorities. The pre-Christmas release came unexpectedly after Marley had served only about five months’ imprisonment. His original 15-year sentence had been reduced to 10 years on appeal. His wife and child are living in Yorkshire. The Royal Air Force is to discharge Marley “with disgrace,” a Ministry of Defence spokesman said in London. Marley was flown from Cyprus to Britain today. He will be discharged from the service on December 30.
