THE MARSDEN CROSS at Oihi, in the Bay of Islands. It marks the spot where Christianity was first preached to the Maoris, by the Rev. Samuel Marsden, on Christmas Day, 1814. A special commemorative service will be held at the cross tomorrow, when the preacher will be the Rev. R. E. Marsden, a great-great-grandson of Samuel Marsden.
