TELEPHONE EXCHANGE

New Building At Rangiora

The Post Office has accepted the tender of Wadey and Efford, of Rangiora, for the construction of Rangiora's new telephone exchange. The contract calls for the job to be completed in one year. Designed by the architectural division of the Ministry of Works, the exchange will be a two-storey building in reinforced concrete with a total floor area of 10,700 sq. ft. It is expected to be in service some time in 1967, after all the equipment has been installed.

Mr H. W. Wilkinson, the Post Office’s regional engineer, said yesterday that the Rangiora exchange would provide a group centre for a complex of smaller exchanges. The Post Office had recently opened small automatic ex-chang-s at Sefton and Woodend, and others were to be built at Ohoka in the middle of next year and Loburn a bit later. Rangiora would also be the switching centre for Oxford and Oust
