DIPLOMATS WITHDRAWN

Russian Charge Of Spying (N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW, December 14. The United States and Britain today announced the withdrawal from Moscow of four military attaches accused by the Russians of spying. Both Governments also requested the withdrawal of Soviet attaches from London and Washington. The four officers were accused of espionage after a trip on the trans-Siberian railway in September. They include three Americans and the British assistant naval attache, Commander Nigel Laville.

The Americans are Colonel George A. Aubrey, the army attache, Colonel Karl R. Liewer, the assistant army attache, and Major James F. Smith, the assistant air attache.

In Washington, State Department sources said that the United States had asked for the withdrawal of three Soviet military attaches because of travel restrictions imposed on the three U.S. attaches in Russia.

In London, Mr George Thomson, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, announced the Soviet Union had been asked to withdraw an assistant naval attache from the Soviet Embassy in London.
