Prices Ease For Auckland Wool

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 16. Compared with the sale last week at Napier, extra fine shorn hoggets, skirtings and second shear wools were | per cent cheaper while all other descriptions with the exception of good wools were in buyers’ favour at today’s Auckland wool sale, according to the official report.

However, not all growers were prepared to accept these new values and passings were recorded at around 20 per cent of the offering. Catalogues submitted today contained 26,820 bales of the new season’s greasy wool, comprising 39 per cent full length fleece wool, 30 per cent second shear, 15 per cent end of season hogget wool, some early lambs’ wool and the usual oddments. All growing districts of the Auckland area north of Taumarunui, Taupo and the Bay of Plenty contributed to this offering. The growing season was a good one and full length wools were a little better grown than usual this year.

Colour generally was good, but evidence of the extremely wet winter and spring was visible in water stain, yolk stain and muddy points. Early shorn wools were typical of a pre-Christmas offering and tended to lack style and colour. Lambs’ wool was generally on the short side.

Within buyers’ limits competition was keen and well spread throughout the day. Continental buyers uplifted the bulk of the offering and America gave support on second shear and coarser types. The following is the official range of prices:—
