DISPUTE IN SOCCER
N.Z.F.A. Not To Move (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. The New Zealand Football Association’s Council will not entertain the idea of going to Auckland for discussions on its current dispute with Auckland soccer administrators. The council tonight considered a letter from the Auckland F.A. asking the council to travel north, but this was rejected. “Under no circumstances whatsoever will the council move out of Wellington to meet Auckland,” said Mr J. Kershaw, a member of the council. He reiterated that if a meeting does not eventuate the N.Z.F.A. will withdraw permission for the Auckland association to negotiate for matches with any other association in New Zealand or overseas.
He emphasised that this action would not be suspending the Auckland association —“just putting them into space.” In Auckland tonight, Mr D. Mills, the deputy-chairman of the Auckland F.A., declined to commit his board on whether it would agree to representation at a meeting in Wellington. “I could not hazard a guess at their decision,” said Mr Mills, “but I will say that we are not taking a dogmatic stance. We want to negotiate a satisfactory settlement.”
