New Sports Stadium In Northland
'VORTHLAND in general, and Whangarei in particular will benefit when the new Ohaka Park is completed in a few months’ time. The park will be suitable for athletics, Rugby, cycling and, on occasions, soccer, marching and other sports. Within easy access of Whangarei, Ohaka Park has been formed from the western slopes of a small hill, the summit lying about the centre of the 32-acre property. Already the 2|-acre playing area, surrounded by athletic and cycling tracks, has a rich carpet of grass. It is expected that the park will be able to accommodate 60,000 people and included in the work still to be done is the construction of a concrete grandstand seating 1750 people under cover and another 1250 outside. The parking area will accommodate about 850 cars. Because of the unpredictable weather in Northland
it is expected that a second playing field will be put down inside the park. The drainage has proved successful since the main field was put down and little water has stayed on the turf because of the scoria and tile drains.
