WATER POLO TOURNEY

Beckenham’s Good Start

The Beckenham water polo team gave an early indication of the part it would play in this season’s senior competition when it beat Fendalton in a preliminary series of matches. The winner of the Canterbury senior title last season, Beckenham was well led by the former New Zealand representative. R. Henry, and the national trialist, L. D. McIntosh. Playing in the senior grade for the first time. Fendalton showed considerable promise. Three former Canterbury representatives. H. Shout. C. Lampe (goal) and F. Selen should set a good example for the younger members of the side during the season. I. Gunthorpe. I. McKenzie, and A. N. McPhail showed good early season form for University when it beat Christchurch. Prominent players for Christchurch were D. Stewart, J. Turpin and G. Doyle.

Wharenui, strengthened by the addition of two former Waikato representatives, G. and J. Parker, and with D. Cutting playing well, beat Elmwood in the third game of the series. N. and K. Chamberlain were the best of the Elmwood players.
