Godfrey 73, 7 Behind

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Nov. 5.

The Auckland golfer, W. J. Godfrey, was on 73—seven strokes behind the leader, Eric Cremin—after the first round of the Australian Professional Golfers Association championship at Monash, Sydney, today. Godfrey’s one-over-par round put him well back in the field. Cremin held a one-stroke lead over Colin Johnston. Bruce Devlin was on 68 with Bob Tuohy. Cremin’s 66 (33 each way) clipped a stroke off the course record set by Devlin when he won the Monash Masters in 1962.
