HALBERG REPLIES

(From Norman Harris, “N.Z. Herald” Reporter.) TOKYO, October 24. M. G. Halberg is making no excuses for his defeats in the 5000 and 10,000 metres—nor does he want others to make them for him. The other day, after his two races, he found himself suddenly accosted in the street by a New Zealander who rushed at him. “What happened to you?” demanded the New Zealander. “What do you mean?” said Halberg. “In the races,” said the New Zealander. “What happened?” “Nothing happened,” said Halberg, in his most deliberate tones. “I wasn’t good enough.” The New Zealander avoided the unflinching gaze and hurried off.
