A Man And His Bicycle
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) HACHIOJI, October 19. A notice posted in the luxurious Hachioji village for Olympic cyclists says: “Please do not cycle through the dining room.”
The notice is in the foyer at the cross roads between the cyclists quarter and their dining
room and a subway going down under the track leading to the centre of the arena. An addendum to the notice states: “You never know—accidents may happen.**
The notice is In English and has been displayed for more than a week but it seems to have
had no effect—bedroom*, hallways and the plush dining room itself are still busy with cycling cyclists.
One cyclist explained: “We become so attached to our bikes we don’t like to let them out of our sight—and anyway it is a good, fast way of getting about.”
