MARRIAGE AIMS
Value Of Example
As parents, and members of the League of Mothers, It was their duty to see that young people were given a complete awareness of the obligations and responsibilities of marriage, Mrs H. C. L. Pruden, the provincial president, said at a provincial committee meeting in Christchurch this week of the League of Mothers In Canterbury. Delegates from Timaru, Waimate, and city branches attended.
Many young people received false ideas about marriage from mass media such as television, films and magazines, and a solid example of good people building happy homes and families was sorely needed; she said. There was a special task here for older members to pass on their experience to younger members so as to help uphold the sanctity of marriage, which was the aim of the league. The league’s purpose should be to give its members an educated, balanced outlook on relationships within the family, Mrs Pruden said. She suggested a programme of speakers who could cover many aspects of marriage, preparation for it, and later guidance. A variety of community work had been carried out, branch reports showed. Clothing had been sent to the House of Happiness, Italy, warm garments had been made for aged folk in hospitals and homes, and assistance had been given in community projects. A report was given by Mesdames Pruden and W. J. M. Hayward on the Dominion council meeting held in Auckland last month. With Mrs W. H. Harvey, these members were the delegates representing the province.
