(N.Z.P.A.-Reufer—Copyright)

WENTWORTH (Surrey). October 11. The British match play champion, Neii Coles, yesterday eliminated the Australian Bruce Devlin in the semi-finals of the Piccadilly £16,000 world match play tournament at Wentworth. Coles beat Devlin two and one to go through to the final today against the American Arnold Palmer. Palmer crushed the South African Gary Player eight and six in the other semifinal. Coles’ match with Devlin was always a grim struggle.

but the British international had ‘he edge from the start. The match ended dramatically at the 35th when Devlin put his second shot out of bounds. Player made a bright start by winning two of the first three holes against Palmer, but soon the American was hitting back fiercely. He finished the morning round four up, and pushed his lead to nine holes after 24 with a six-hole run which included four successive birdies and an eagle. He finished the match at the 30th, having covered that distance in a brilliant six under four.
