SUBURBAN COMPETITIONS Papanui Leading Scorer, 230 Against Promoted Club

Play began on Saturday in the Suburban Cricket Association’s competitions. Scoring in the main was low; only Papanui, which had first use of the wicket against the promoted side, Matchless, topped the two-hundred mark, being all out for 230. B. Hobbs hit hard for his 68, whilst K. Smith scored an attractive 33. For Matchless, G. Albertson took six wickets with his slow off-breaks. Matchless at dose of play had lost five wickets cheaply. Beckenham gained a small first innings lead over Sumner, which could only manage 99. Beckenham found runs just as hard to get. Only K. Tucker, like F. Clements for Sumner, looked to be in batting form. Burnside appears to hold a slight advantage over Waltham. After being all out for 100 it took eight Waltham wickets for 65. N.
