Hawke’s Bay Wins, 31-27 (N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, October 11. A Hawke’s Bay Rugby representative side beat a New Zealand invitation 15, captained by W. J. Whineray, 31-27, at McLean Park, Napier, yesterday. The invitation 15 led 19-10 at half-time. The ground was firm and fast and both sides threw the ball about and ran with it. Each side scored six tries, but Hawke's Bay converted two more than the Invitation 15 and finished strongly in the last 20 minutes. Tries for Hawke's Bay were scored by W. L. Davies (2), K. Crawford, G. Watts, M. Percy and A. Small. Small also kicked a penalty goal and converted three tries, and I. Bishop converted two tries. For the Invitation 15 tries were scored by R. W. Caulton (3), A. S. T. Smith, K. C. Briscoe and D. Young. M. A. Herewinl converted three tries and kicked a field goal.
