Gambling Even In P.O.
There were even "onearmed bandid” gambling machines in the Post Office in Las Vegas, Mr C. V. Gallagher told members of the Canterbury Travel Club at their morning tea meeting on Thursday, in a talk entitled “Round the world in 90 days.” Gambling was the mainstay of Las Vegas. Another feature was the well-advertised chapels and offices where couples could be married (10 dollars) or divorced (eight dollars). The Grand Canyon had been the most impressive sight he saw on the trip, Mr Gallagher said. Mrs H. E. Goggin presided at the meeting and guests were welcomed by Mrs A. Benzie. A bracket of songs was sung by Mrs Ngaire Wilson, accompanied by Mrs Eunice Higgins. The artists and the speakers were thanked by Mrs J. Erwin.
