Man Tried To Protect Wife (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK, Oct. 7. Hundreds of people looked on in horror—but none offered help—when a muscular > 6ft Negro stabbed a man who tried to protect his wife from i him in the heart of Times ! Square. The attacker fled after ' pushing his way through the crowd. i Police said Joseph Zaia, J aged 28, of New York City, i was strolling with his attractive red-haired wife, Sandra, i aged 26, on Broadway when, i at 46th street, the Negro, i who appeared drunk, grabbed 1 Mrs Zaia. i He pulled her close and i told her: “Come with me, ] baby. 1 want to talk to you.” Zaia told the man she was 1 his wife, at which the assail- 1 ant whipped out the knife and 1 plunged the knife repeatedly I into Zaia. i The victim, stabbed at least ’ five times in the neck, chest i and abdomen, is reported in i a serious condition. ;
