Ombudsman’s Salary

fN.Z., Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct 2. A recommendation that the Ombudsman’s salary be increased from £3500 to £4lOO is made by the Royal Commission on Parliamentary Salaries. The commission recommends that the increase be back-dated to April 1. In the circumstances, the commission was not prepared to recommend an increase more than was appropriate to keep the salary substantially in line with the recent in-

creases in the salaries of senior officers of the State services.

The commission said it was unable to accept submissions that the Ombudsman should be given the salary of a judge of the Supreme Court
