SUMMER SCHOOL AT NELSON
Record Attendance Expected Up to 30 Asian students brought to New Zealand under Colombo Plan are expected to attend the summer school being organised by the Canterbury Workers’ Educational Association at Nelson from December 28 to: January 6. It will .be the only W.E.A. summer school, in’ New Zealand and the organiser, Mr C. L. Marfin, expects a record attendance. More than 100 persons can be accommodated at the Nelson Giri’s College, where the school will be held, and many Nelson residents and holiday visitors are also expected to attend.
The major topic will be the philosophy of the ancient Greeks and a Comparison with that of modern States. The lecturer will be Dr. J. L. Moffat, senior lecturer, postprimary language section, Christchurch Teachers’ College. The Rev. D. J. Inglis, minister of Trinity Congregational Church, will discuss major world religions and it is also intended to provide a series of lectures on the Nelson district, with trips to places of interest outlined in the lectures. Subsidiary activities will be music, painting and square dancing. Mrs Mollie Atkins, a working member of the Society of Artists, will, conduct coaching, in sketching apd painting, and Mr Martin will take classes in musical appreciation and invention as well as choral work. . The Dominion president of the W.E.A., Mr A. Dingwall, will be director of the school.
