NASSELLA PATCHES

Discovery In South (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Sept. 29. Concern at the appearance of nassella tussock in the Levels and Ashburton counties was expressed in Parliament tonight by Sir Basil Arthur (Opp., Timaru). Speaking during the discussion oh Lands and Survey estimates, he said he was disappointed there had to be an increase in the amount of money voted for the control of nassella, but he realised the menace had to be controlled. He said he understood the amounts discovered in these two counties were small, but significant. There had been some suggestion that this spread had been due to the movement of stock from drought-affected areas. The Minister of Lands (Mr Gerard) said he also was concerned about the spread of the tussock. He was well aware of the fine work being done by the nassella tussock boards, and thought more might be contributed later on this subject by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys).
