Hostages In Congo LEOPOLDVILLE,' Sept 28. Negotiations for the evacuation of 525 white people were going on be- • tween rebel leaders and International Red Cross officials in Stanleyville yesterday. . '* The rebel-held Radio Stanleyville said they had set up a committee to examine “in-1 dividual cases of persons willing to leave the Congo for good.” The whites were trapped in the Stanleyville area when it was overrun by rebels early in August. Four International Red Cross doctors and two officials arrived in Stanleyville yesterday, on a “mercy flight,” with medical supplies. ■ The radio said Mr Christophe Gbenye, leader of the Stanleyville Rebel Government, had stated that in view of the prevailing political situation it was extremely “unlikely” • his Government would allow the evacuation of foreigners except in “exceptional cases.”
