SLUMP IN HOUSING

Danger Seen In Wage Rise (N Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 28. The State Advances Corporation will not be able to ignore a £lOO to £2OO increase in the cost of a standard house brought about by the recent 6 per cent General Wage Order, the Auckland Master Builders’ Association president (Mr A. J. Hart) said today. If this was not done the cost of building homes would be put beyond the reach of working people, he said. There would also be the danger of a slump in group housing. Firms with ready-built houses in Auckland are adding 6 per cent to the previous cost.
