Buller Ends Local Rugby Season
The local Rugby season will end tomorrow when the Canterbury B team plays Buller at Lancaster Park.
Buller has had an eventful eason so far. Its strong challenge for the Ranfurly Shield in conditions to its liking—mud and rain—caused some surprise to Taranaki supporters who were expecting the game to be no more than a mild exercise for their team.
Then, later in the season, Buller won the Seddon Shield, which caused considerable rejoicing in Westport. However, the shield was lost almost immediately to West Coast.
The smallest union in New Zealand —its representative team is chosen from four senior teams—Buller always manages to field a reasonable team and may prove too strong for the Canterbury XV. However, the Canterbury B side has performed well this season. Last week it lost narrowly to North Otago, which subsequently beat Otago.
